Founded in 2005, Sweet Cheeks winery lies atop a 55-acre estate vineyard with plantings that date back to 1978, sitting on 140 acres of prime sloping hillside overlooking the Briggs Hill Valley. The vineyards were christened Sweet Cheeks because of the curious swell of the hillside that became evident as the soil was plowed and then planted with grapes. The nickname stuck and has been a tongue in “cheek” favorite ever since. Located in the southern fringes of the Willamette Valley wine appellation, we produce true cool-climate wines based upon Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Our philosophy is to allow the terroir and varietal characteristics for each harvest to be fully expressed by advocating minimal handling and gentle processing throughout the wine’s life. Attention to detail at every stage is paramount throughout the vinification process.
The main winery is constructed from a 50 year old building that was originally located in Junction City, Oregon. Scheduled for destruction in 2003, the building was rescued by Vineyard Owner Dan Smith and today is the centerpiece of our boutique winery. Blessed with a spectacular view, our tasting room also offers a warm yet elegant ambiance. The winery has become a popular destination for locals and visitors to Eugene alike with award winning wines and friendly smiles all year round.
